Veterinary Science

AMA’s veterinary science program started up after we saw the strong need for animal assistance throughout the different communities of Dominican Republic. There is a high number of rabid dogs and abandonment of different animals. In our veterinary science program volunteers will be working at an animal shelter and with a veterinarian in Punta Cana and Higuey. Each week we will choose an animal based on its severity and provide different medical services such as vaccinations and surgeries. Volunteers will have the opportunity to worth with the veterinarian and assist in examinations and surgical procedures.

Veterinarians in Dominican Republic try their best to reduce the number of rabies in the communities. One way of preventing rabies has been doing house to house vaccinations. At the end of the program volunteers will have more education on sterilization and continue the fight against rabies by providing vaccinations. Donations coming from this program will go toward the animal shelter to provide food, toys, blankets and medical attention.
